About Ed Shaw

Why I am running:
I believe our children’s public educational journey is one of the most important and wise investments we can make. That is why I am choosing to run for a seat on the Brainerd School Board in the election this coming November. I am the proud parent of two Forestview 6th graders, local business owner and active community member. They have received a great education in the Brainerd School District. However, I am very concerned about their and all the other district students’ public education future opportunities. Our school district is financially on life support. In my opinion, we desperately need to pass an operating levy to allow our children the public education journey that will allow them success in their future. I WILL allow our voters to decide if our children’s public education journey is an investment we want to make or not. The voters, not the board members, need to decide on whether our schools get what they need to educate our kids. If you feel our children’s public educational journey is an important and wise investment, I want to represent you. I will be an advocate for our children, our educational staff, our community and the future of all of us. I look forward to meeting all of you and listening to you.
Ed's approach involves a deep understanding of community needs. He listens, strategizes, and implements ideas and policies that benefit all.
Ed prioritizes parent involvement in their children's education. As a parent himself, he sees the value and importance in parents getting decision making in the form of voting for their children's education. Ed values the community and believes that citizens should decide how education is funded.

Ed has spent a majority of his adult life engaging in the community in various ways. Ed was previously a board member of the Brainerd Public Library, is currently the Secretary for the Forestview Middle School Parent's Association, is a member of The Paul Bunyan Cyclists Club, the Brainerd Nordic Ski Club, the Northland Arboretum, and has coached his children's soccer teams for several years. Ed is a local attorney, and consistently shows up for his community in many different ways.
Above all else, Ed is a dedicated parent like all of you. He takes pride in the way his children are taught and the value and power that voting has within our community. He believes that you should have the ability to make decisions when it comes to your children's education. He believes that parents should be heard, and that parents are important when it comes to decision-making that affects their children. When Ed is on the schoolboard he will do everything within his power to ensure that parents are heard and get a choice.

Vote for Ed Shaw for Brainerd School Board. Ed listens to local concerns and thoughtfully explores what is best. He will empower the voice of the people and let them decide about a school levy referendum and what they want for their students. Schools need to be safe places for children and staff, along with classroom support. He has advocated for the betterment of the Brainerd community for nearly 30 years.
As a parent, Ed knows that school safety and security make for better educational experiences. If the voters want a referendum for a school levy, let them speak!

Ed is one of those rare people who can enter a conversation with someone of an opposing viewpoint and navigate it respectfully and with class. In the age of never ending disagreements, it is a rare character trait to be able to work with people who may not always agree with you and get the job done. Ed is no stranger to serving others and he will do well in this role.

Ed has always valued education as a priority for our youth. I think he'll do a great job if elected to the School Board.
